Walks & Talks

Home > Walks & Talks

During the warmer months, when the bats are flying, we try to host members only walks so everyone gets the opportunity to hear the echolocation of a bat and usually see them flying overhead.  We also host public walks which have traditionally been very well attended. During these walks we hand out our Magenta bat detectors and let you hear for yourself the heterodyne sounds of a bat. We are also involved with the schools and Scouts/ Guides to whom we offer walks and talks about bats.

Bat Walk at Government House

This was a very enjoyable walk from 2024 where we were hosted by the Lieutenant Governor of Jersey at Government House.

We also try to organize at least one training session every year — open to both new and existing members — as well as public events during the active survey season.

During winter, we put on zoom talks from experts around the world.

Meet and Greet at Francis Le Sueur Centre

Tuesday 14 July 2026

🦇 A huge thank you to everyone who joined us for our Bat Meet & Greet at the Francis Le Sueur Centre last night!

It was fantastic to see such a great turnout and to enjoy plenty of wonderfully batty conversations before heading out on a guided walk around St Ouen’s Bay and the pond.

Although the windy conditions meant the bats were keeping a low profile, nature still treated us to a magical moment. A Pipistrelle spent around 10 minutes hunting overhead, giving everyone the chance to watch it in action and hear its echolocation calls through our bat detectors. Experiences like that are what make these evenings so special!

A special thank you to Callum and Laura for organising such a brilliant event.

🦇 If you’ve never been on one of our bat walks before, why not join us at a future event? They’re a great way to discover Jersey’s amazing nocturnal wildlife, meet like-minded people, and experience bats up close. Keep an eye on our page for upcoming walks—we’d love to see you there!
